Three services the institute performs for people who are not part of it: a forewarning calendar that tells a rearer which disease is due and when to act, soil testing for seri-farmers across the North East, and laboratory, library and residential facilities open to students and visiting workers. Extension carries the technology out; these are the standing services a cultivator, a student or a visiting scientist can come and ask for.
